Zendaya and Timothée Chalamet attend the premiere of Dune at the Venice Film Festival.
As the 78th annual Venice International Film Festival comes to an end, it is only right to reflect upon the event’s biggest moment: the red carpet! What would a proper Hollywood starlet be without showstopping looks at their big premiere? And from the other side of the world, it’s really the only thing we can latch onto until the films arrive in theaters later in the fall. From genuine works of art to glistening gowns, check out the best looks from the Venice Film Festival below.
With each premiere and awards show, Zendaya affirms her reign as the Zillenial queen of the red carpet. Even though her role is relatively small in Dune (the sequel is already set to be about her character, Chani), the 25-year-old actor stirred up some of the most buzz of the festival. Styled by longtime stylist Law Roach, Zendaya donned a custom Balmain gown by the French fashion house’s creative director, Olivier Rousteing. The sculptured leather dress was created from a cast model of the actor’s own bust. She polished off the look with Bulgari’s Magnifica Serpenti Hypnotic Emerald necklace and Christian Louboutin pumps.
From the man that once walked the carpet in a harness, there was no doubt Timothée Chalamet would show up to his big Venice premiere in just a simple black-and-white tux. One again partnering with Haider Ackermann, Chalamet wore a head-to-toe black sequined jumper and pants with white trim at the collar and wrists. Preceding his officiation as Friend of the House, Chalamet sported Cartier rings and brooches on his shirt cuffs.
Living up to the fashionable reputation of Princess Diana herself, Kristen Stewart walked the Venice red carpet in a sky blue chiffon set from Chanel’s Autumn-Winter 21/22 Haute Couture collection. The look was pulled together with a black satin bow, Chanel jewelry and peach-toned blonde waves. The actor went on to wow audiences in the biographical-psychological drama Spencer.

There’s no rest for the wicked when it comes to the genius of Law Roach. Also styling Anya Taylor-Joy, the 25-year-old actor hit the carpet for Last Night in Soho in Dior Haute Couture. The pink satin silk dress was meant to channel vintage Barbie, but also finds a spiritual sister in Elle Woods. With a matching beret and shoes, she sealed the look with Tiffany & Co. jewelry.
Jessica Chastain and Scenes from a Marriage co-star Oscar Isaac may have set the internet ablaze with an arm kiss, but Chastain alone was worth the buzz. With zebra-like, embellished red stripes, her Atelier Versace gown fit like a glove. Accented by her equally scarlet shoes, lips and hair, Chastain accessorized with a gorgeous Chopard Haute Joaillerie Collection necklace.
Opting for a sheer ensemble is always a power move. As Beyoncé and Rihanna have done before her, Dakota Johnson turned heads in a near see-through Gucci dress for The Lost Daughter premiere. Sparkling by way of metallic fringe and crystal embellishments, Johnson capped the look with strappy gold heels.
Another entry from Law Roach! For The Card Counter premiere, Tiffany Hadish showed up in Old Hollywood elegance. Her black-and-white gown from Christian Siriano complemented her sleek, icy blonde hair, giving the perfect foundation to dripping jewels from Pomellato. The moment marks a turn in Haddish’s career as she pivots from comedy into her first major dramatic feature.
