Siena Lasker has always loved fashion and jewelry. In fact, she started stringing bead necklaces as a hobby when she was three years old, but it wasn't until college that she began to take her love for beading more seriously. The stunning LA native began making necklaces and bracelets for herself and literally selling the jewelry off of her body. She decided the next step would be to start a line, and thus Siena Jewelry was born. Lasker started her company in 2012 and it spread rapidly to all of the best stores in Los Angeles. It continues to grow nationwide and is now currently carried in a number of small boutiques, over 20 Neiman Marcus stores, Bergdorf Goodman, Fred Segal stores and Four Seasons hotels. Lakser spends a good deal of time traveling hunting down beautiful gemstones and doing trunk shows all over the country.
What was your original inspiration behind the brand?
SIENA LASKER: The ethos in my family growing up was about tapping into anything that was creative, spiritual and natural. My house was full of crystals and I loved reading about their mystical and magical properties; thus began my obsession with gems. Colored gemstones are an essential part of my line and I love combining them with diamonds. I've also always been inspired by nature which is reflected in all of the birds, bees, insects, flowers, suns, stars, and even fruit that I have designed as jewelry. I try to keep a bit of whimsy in my collections.
Who is the girl you design for?
SL: The girl I design for is elegant and stylish but also a bit playful. She is fashionable and wants to make a statement with jewelry. I aim to create pieces that are forward and bold, but also investment-worthy.
What are some of your go-to pieces right now?
SL: I love my vibrant, oversized stone cocktail rings that are classic styles with a modern twist. I throw them on for a pop of color. I've always created spiritual charms to go on silver chains, but lately, I've been experimenting more with gold. A lot of my charms are inspired by ancient symbols and sacred geometry. I love layering two to three charm necklaces at a time. I'm also having a serious emerald moment, I can’t get enough green. I love wearing my green statement stone earrings. Last but not least, my new pearl hoop earrings that I mixed with emeralds, sapphires and diamonds, have rekindled my love of pearls. They are classic and chic with a fun, young twist.
What's been the most rewarding part of building a business?
SL: Without question, it's seeing people wear and enjoy the pieces. Every time a customer purchases a piece, it's a thrill to me.
What are some of your favorite spots in LA?
SL: I’m so lucky because my husband owns my favorite restaurants in LA. I love going to Nice Guy and Delilah for dinner. They have the best food and vibe. I also like going to Harriet’s rooftop for a drink and I especially love being there this summer while it’s warm out. If I am feeling really adventurous I go to Bootsy Bellows for a late night out.
What are you most looking forward to this summer?
SL: I'm traveling to France and Spain and I hoping to get some inspiration and also eat a lot of croissants and paella!
