sbe, led by Founder & CEO Sam Nazarian, a prominent name in Los Angeles, has been taking incredible action in response to the pandemic. They previously launched a GoFundMe page in Mid March to support their hospitality workers, sbe.com/gofundme. sbe launched the GoFundMe, to support the hospitality community, ultimately to help his thousands of affected employees in an admirable way. For every dollar they are matching by dollar, and so far over $110,000 has been raised. This is a beautiful and heartfelt effort by sbe to support their team members and their families during this extremely difficult time.
The first action of this GoFundMe Relief Fund was a care package delivery giveback. Over 1000 packages were disseminated to the employees in LA, plus packages to their staff in Miami, Las Vegas, as well as San Francisco and Chicago. Over 2,000+ packages have been given out to date. Care package items include pasta noodles, rice, beans, tomato sauce, soap, dishwater soap, bathroom essentials, toilet paper, water cases from Evian, Olive oil, bread loaf, granola bars, $50 gift card and more.
"This fund has been set up to benefit the men and women that have served our restaurants, bars and nightlife venues for the last 20 years. This is an unprecedented time – we have never seen anything like this. These funds will directly benefit all of the sbe team members who cannot come to work and to support themselves and their families. In addition to this page, I am personally taking efforts to ensure we care for our team members who are temporarily out of work by providing extended benefits coverage and a combination of pay from sbe, combined with federal and state programs. This industry of 15 million people in the U.S. alone, woke up one morning and weren’t able to perform their jobs. Currently in Los Angeles, Katsuya Brentwood maintains operating for delivery through third party apps and curbside pick up, Umami Burger is still offering delivery at limited locations, and Sam's Crispy Chicken which recently launched is doing delivery, also through all third party apps.
Newest LA openings by sbe include S Bar Brentwood in January of 2020, located next to Katsuya Brentwood, Krispy Rice and Sam's Crispy Chicken. Mondrian LA also recently underwent a $19 million dollar full hotel renovation that had debuted Fall of 2019.
Their Los Angeles venues and restaurants currently closed due to the circumstances of the pandemic include Cleo Hollywood + Cleo Third Street, Nightingale, Doheny Room, Hyde Sunset and Hyde Staples, Katsuya downtown, and several other locations of their various brands.
