Olivia Rodrigo in driving home 2 u (a SOUR film)
It seems as though the massive force of a pop star that is Olivia Rodrigo emerged out of thin air, but we’re all here for it. Her remarkably relatable debut album, ‘Sour,’ is one that rings true for many of those who have gone through a nasty break up. Sometimes it’s hard to put those feelings into words, so Olivia is there to do it for you. Her lyrics throughout the songs on her album shockingly hit close to home for many of us, so we’ve gathered a list of nine of the most relatable lyrics.
This is a question we all ask ourselves when a guy leaves us and moves on with a snap of his fingers. We really wonder how they do this and wish we could move on so easily just like they do, instead of being the one suffering. Olivia knows the confusion and pain that comes with these feelings, but sometimes you just have to turn your feelings into a sarcastic, belittling song.
Seeing your ex do the same things the two of you used to do hurts and let’s face it: feeling replaceable isn’t a good feeling. You can’t help but compare your relationship to his new one, but Olivia wonders on a real note: "Are you thinking of me when you’re with her?"
Talk about teenage angst! People always say your youth is one of the best times of your life, but what they don’t take into account is the journey filled with insecurities of trying to find out who you are and finding your place in the world. Sometimes you want to disappear because the world is just too brutal.
Sadly, many of us have dealt with those toxic relationships that we look back on when they’re over and wonder why we put in so much time and effort towards that person who treated us so poorly. Sometimes we wish we could just turn back the clock and realize how blinded we were, but we can’t, so instead we’ll just reminisce with Olivia’s heart-wrenching lyrics.
Thank you Olivia for saying what everyone else is too scared to say. This selfish thought is one that runs through many of our brains when a relationship ends, even though the respectful thing to say is, “I hope they’re happy!”
You’ll find the waterworks coming through with these lyrics even if you’re in a happy, loving relationship. When you’re in a relationship at a young age, it feels like your entire world. What is it about young love that just makes you want to rip your heart out?
There’s always the girl he tells you not to worry about, but maybe you should’ve been worried? You may be feeling like your feelings are invalid because a man didn’t actually cheat on you, but sometimes the little white lies and emotional cheating are harder to wrap your head around and get over.
Point your fingers at social media for this one. Scrolling through instagram and seeing flawless girls with what seem to be perfect lives unfortunately have an effect on all of us. How are we not supposed to compare ourselves when perfect is just a digital screen away?
Feeling like you’re not enough for someone has got to be one of the worst feelings, especially when you’ve done everything to make them think that you are. Truthful and heart-wrenching, Olivia’s words are like a dagger to the heart when you realize you just might never be the one that they want.
