Olivia Rodrigo Delivers Emotionally Charged ‘Drivers License' At The 2022 Grammys

| April 3, 2022 | Culture Awards

Olivia Rodrigo just reminded everyone why she won the Grammy for best pop solo performance.

Following up an exciting opening performance by Silk Sonic, Rodrigo followed up with the song that started it all: “Drivers License.”

Not even 10 minutes into the show, and we’ve likely seen one of the best performances of the night. The inherently emotionally ballad was kicked up a notch with electric guitars, invigorating the arena’s atmosphere with an emotion that swelled like a crashing wave rather than glass shattering.

Rodrigo donned a white high-low, ruffled train dress that embodied the single’s delicacy. The teen pop sensation appeared angelic, but rough around the edges with her standard mile-high platform boots and black tights.

The Grammys stage certified the haunting nature of the very heartbreak Rodrigo sings about. She was accompanied on stage by her band, in addition to a white retro convertible. The classic car offered a posh aesthetic to the moody backdrop. From behind, the screen projected a foggy neighborhood at night.

Rodrigo has paid her dues at every award show since the May 2021 release of Sour. But with the Grammys, she’s proven herself as the big leagues and this performance served as the album’s cycle’s homerun (just before she embarks on her first-ever world tour).

The pop star is up for a total of seven Grammy Awards tonight, including for Album and Record of the year, even as the night’s outstanding rookie artist.
