Concierge delivers luxury at iconic highrise apartment building with sweeping ocean views.
You might think having a guest services concierge at a hotel or residence is no longer needed given the advent of apps like Yelp, OpenTable and UberEats. But don’t try telling that to Chris Ignacio, Guest Services Manager at 1221 Ocean Avenue, a luxury oceanfront apartment building in Santa Monica with each of the 120 units enjoying sweeping coastal views from Palos Verdes to Malibu.
“A concierge is much more than a convenience,” said Ignacio. “It’s about anticipating a resident’s needs, getting to know them and personalizing their experiences every step of the way.”
So what can those who make their home in the 1221 Ocean Avenue community expect from Chris?
“We want to provide our residents with effortless valet service, a car wash, last minute housekeeping or dry-cleaning needs—all your day-to-day needs. I have always believed that no matter how beautiful the property is—and it is spectacular—it’s about the attention to detail.”
Chris is also eager to provide added value at local Santa Monica destinations such as Sushi Roku, Boa Steakhouse and Exhale Spa where residents can choose from rotating “in house” discounts. They can also sign up with him for yoga and workout classes by the rooftop pool, where the ocean views will inspire them to healthier living.
Ignacio moved to Los Angeles from upstate New York. Syracuse to be specific. He jokingly calls his hometown the Arctic Circle. Over the years, he quickly worked his way up at a resort property in his newfound paradise. He knew right away he had found his calling in upscale hospitality.
“It’s a cliché, but I really like helping people. It’s about the people, that’s what everyone remembers. Providing guest services at a luxury residence is a little different than at a hotel as we can build genuine, longstanding relationships. But in either case, a concierge should exceed expectations with every single opportunity.”
As just one example of going the extra mile, Chris delivered a gift basket carefully curated with a t-shirt, track pants and socks from one resident’s alma mater. He knows how passionate he is about supporting the school.
“He was overwhelmed by the gesture. A few days later, he came to visit us and show off his new outfit. He even posted a photo to his alumni social media page. It means a lot to know we were able to generate that personal and enthusiastic reaction.”
Those who call 1221 Ocean Avenue home are steps to the beach and plenty of the finest dining, shopping and amenities on Montana Avenue and Third Street Promenade. But it’s nice to have the personal touch and personal connection of a concierge. No request is too big or too small for Chris Ignacio. He’s come a long way from the lake-effect snow of upstate New York to bring his passion for guest services to a year-round sunshine paradise, with panoramic ocean views stretching from Palos Verdes to Malibu.
“I am grateful for the opportunity to be a part of the community at 1221 Ocean Avenue, the most coveted address on the West Coast. Every day I get to put a smile on as many faces as possible. I strive to go above and beyond for our residents and their guests every chance I get.”
