Mix The Martini's Momma - CBD Martinez Recipe

Tribe CBD Tribe CBD | January 4, 2021 | Sponsored Post,

Today, you can’t talk about the Martinez cocktail without mentioning the martini. Yes, it’s true that the Martinez partially inspired the gin martini, but that doesn’t mean both drinks are similar. Indeed, if you loved our CBD martini recipe, you might be surprised at the many striking differences between these two classic cocktails.

While there are distinctions between the Martinez and the martini, we can assure you both of these drinks go great with our citrus-flavored CBD oil. Whether you use a half or a full dropperful, our sweet CBD oil will add a tasty touch to this old favorite.

Like many other classic cocktails, there’s a lot of debate over what goes in a proper Martinez. However, most bartenders say an authentic recipe should include Old Tom gin. Invented in the 1700s, Old Tom is a classic English gin that tends to have a slightly sweet and “malty” flavor. A few iconic brands worth researching include Hayman’s, Jensen’s, and Ransom.

Also, although most Martinez recipes call for sweet vermouth, you could switch this for dry vermouth if you want your drink to be…well, “dry.”

Ingredients

  • 1 ½ oz gin
  • 2 dashes Angostura bitters
  • 1 barspoon of maraschino liqueur
  • 1 ½ oz sweet vermouth
  • 1 dropperful Tribe CBD oil (citrus)
  • Lemon peel

Directions

  • Pour gin, sweet vermouth, maraschino liqueur, and Angostura bitters into a mixing glass
  • Add ice and stir until chill
  • Strain into a pre-chilled coupe glass
  • Garnish with Tribe CBD oil and a lemon peel

If you research the original Martinez recipe, you’ll soon notice this drink calls for an unusual brand of bitters called “Boker’s.” Interestingly, this bitters blend was one of the most widely used in the pre-Prohibition era. Unfortunately for classic cocktail connoisseurs, Boker’s bitters was phased out during Prohibition.

While many people claim Angostura bitters is an acceptable replacement for Boker’s, others prefer orange bitters. Since our citrus-flavored CBD oil has traces of all-natural orange oil, this second bitters option blends perfectly.

Although it’s not common, there are a few bartenders who skip the bitters and use ½ oz of fresh-squeezed lemon juice. Again, this ingredient isn’t in a standard Martinez, but it might be worth a go if you love tart drinks.
