With New York Fashion Week and the MTV Video Music Awards kicking off September, it has been a whirlwind week for NYC. Today the 2021 Met Gala caps off the festivities with fashion’s biggest night out after over a year of postponement due to the COVID-19 pandemic. See below for everything you need to know about the event, including how you can gain access to the red carpet even without one of the very exclusive invites. You’ll surely want to watch the top-secret guest list unfold in real time.
Vogue is hosting the official livestream of the Met Gala, which can be accessed from the fashion publication’s website or Twitter or The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s website. Laughs are inevitable, as the livestream will be hosted by Keke Palmer and Ilana Glazer. Given Palmer’s big break as fashion wunderkid True Jackson on the eponymous Nickelodeon show and Glazer’s hometown ties, the pair make a perfect duo to provide an all-access pass to the infamous Met Gala red carpet. Starting at 5:30 p.m. ET, Palmer and Glazer will interview the influx of high profile guests and are sure to be the night’s best source of comedy. The livestream will last until approximately 9 p.m. when the carpet closes.

Each year, the Met Gala brings together fashion and entertainment’s biggest names for a celebration and fundraiser for a new exhibit from the Met’s Costume Institute. This time around, the institute is putting on a two-part exhibition, which will open Sept. 18 for “In America: A lexicon of Fashion” and then May 5, 2022 for “In America: An Anthology of Fashion.” Given the exhibit, gala guests must show up in their very best American independence-inspired look.
The 2021 Met Gala hosts derive from across the arts, culture and entertainment sphere. Plucked from Hollywood are two of the industry’s biggest names: Billie Eilish and Timothée Chalamet. In their handful of years in the industry, both Eilish and Chalamet have cultivated unique styles that stick true to their individualized core, but constantly break boundaries on the carpet. Such a rebellious spirit can be seen in co-host Naomi Osaka, the tennis superstar known to never shy away from her truth. Inaugural poet Amanda Gorman rounds out the night’s hosts, who are supported by honorary chairs Tom Ford, Adam Mosseri and Anna Wintour.
