Kim Kardashian attends the 2021 Met Gala.
Kim Kardashian West must be on a “Sound of Silence” kick.
In shadow realness, the lawyer-in-training socialite arrived on the Met Gala red carpet in a skin-tight, black look. According to E!, the ensemble was designed by Demna Gvasalia. Aside from her floor-length ponytail, Kardashian West’s all-black ensemble extends over her face to the tips of a flowing train.
Kardashian West’s appearance continues her latest trend of BDSM-inspired looks. During New York Fashion Week, she sported an all-leather outfit, also by Gvasalia. Her cinched Vetements trench coat came together with a zipper-closed face mask and a standout silver purse and black boots from Balenciaga.
Also similar was Kardashian West’s look for ex-husband Kanye West’s Donda album listening party at Chicago’s Soldier Field Stadium. Opting for something more serene, CR Fashion Book reported her veiled appearance was a Balenciaga wedding gown from Gvasalia’s haute couture debut collection.
The dress was a recreation of one designed by the fashion house’s founder, Cristobal Balenciaga, in 1967. Held together by a single seam, it now stands archived at the Met.
Almost incognito, Kardashian West is essentially the polar opposite of what she wore to the 2019 camp-themed Met Gala: a custom, gemstone-dripping Thierry Mugler dress.
"He envisioned me as this California girl stepping out of the ocean, wet, dripping," Kardashian told Vogue at the time.
Kris and Kendall Jenner are also in attendance. Kris hit the carpet with boyfriend Corey Gamble and, sticking to her momager ways, wore an Alexander McQueen all-black blazer-skirt and pants ensemble. She added a pop of color with emerald earrings and carried a sparking Judith Leiber ball-and-chain purse. Gamble broke up his all-black suit with a light pink, satin button down.
Prior to her arrival, Kendall posted to her Instagram Story a clip of Audrey Hepburn all dolled up as Eliza Doolittle in My Fair Lady. Inspired by the 1960s classic (and possibly her older sister), she wore a sheer, intricately embellished Givenchy dress with cap sleeves and an equally stunning crystallized collar.
Though she attended New York Fashion Week just days ago, sister Kylie Jenner reportedly backed out of the Met Gala due to her recently announced pregnancy. Kourtney Kardashian, who attended the VMAs last night in Brooklyn, was also not in attendance.
