Despite undeniable personal and professional growth, Issa Dee’s charming, comedic awkwardness endures throughout all five seasons of Insecure. It’s immediately captured in the pilot, specifically during one of the show’s most iconic scenes: Broken P****.
As the show approaches its Dec. 26 finale, Russian Standard Vodka and Gancia have teamed up to honor the beloved, critically-acclaimed HBO series. Inspired by the groundbreaking show’s unforgettable freestyle rap segment, the two wine and spirit leaders created The Broken Cookie.
The collaboration honors Issa’s beverage of choice. Bringing together the succulent and tangy mix of Gancia Prosecco Rosé DOC, lime juice and Russian Standard Original Vodka in a sugar cookie crumb-rimmed glass, the cocktail is an ideal and delicious way to celebrate Insecure’s triumphant end.
Broken Cookie is the proper embodiment of Broken P****. At first glance, you wonder how all this might come together the way Issa timidly approaches her first few lines, but she nevertheless hits her stride and even gets the crowd to sing along. It’s a success and gives Issa a momentary confidence boost (to the dismay of Molly, the freestyle's subject) until her students stumble upon a YouTube video of the rap.
What’s more, Broken Cookie symbolizes Issa’s growth (Okay?!). Calling back all the way to the show’s debut, the cocktail allows fans to reflect on her evolution with her identity, ambitions and relationships, particularly with Molly, arguably the most important of them all. Like in Season 1 Episode 1, the two best friends can’t help but sometimes get on each other’s nerves, but have since then learned to better themselves, which ultimately allowed them be a better friend to the other.
Let’s also not forget the growth in Issa’s drink of choice (ahem, Season 4 Episode 8, below). As captured by Broken Cookie, her standard order is prosecco with a splash of vodka, which once used to be prosecco with a splash of whisky.
