Whether it’s a New Year’s resolution, an upcoming vacation or the summer months just around the corner, for many, going to the gym is often motivated by a desire for a better body. But for Cherie Carter, her fitness journey began after a tragically life-altering event. A mother to five sons, Carter lost one of her boys in 2009 after a terrible accident. Forced to overcome an indescribable heartbreak like the loss of a child, Carter leaned into her faith as she poured all of her time and energy into her other four sons and raising them with her husband Thomas.
Although Carter found peace and healing through her faith, she was still struggling with regular sadness and the stresses of life. She realized that while her time was spent taking care of her family, she neglected self-care. She began training at a gym to relieve stress and found many positive results. It became an all-encompassing journey that affected her mind, body and soul. Soon after seeing the obvious results of training, Carter implemented discipline to her eating habits and even her mind with the choices she made on a daily basis.
“The battle is won in our minds,” Carter says. “Stop believing any lie that we can’t be who we want to be or overcome obstacles we face. To become positive, inspired, motivated, determined and disciplined is a key factor in our success.”
After her mind, body and soul transformation, Carter realized how her story had inspired others around her— fellow mothers, friends, and family. And with a constant desire to learn, Carter decided to take her journey one step further and seek a certification in personal training and nutrition.
Up ahead, Carter looks forward to sharing her journey with others, encouraging them to not feel downtrodden by the trials and tribulations of life. And from her own experience, she urges others to start with a 30-90 day commitment to living clean, implementing a fitness routine, healthy eating, and positive thinking. As she prepares to embark on a new journey where she will coach people not only through workouts, but also through life, she feels confident about the challenge ahead. “My mission is to encourage people to have a clear vision of their own goals, dreams and desires,” Carter says. “Then help them to take action to achieve success and live a whole and healthy lifestyle.”
