Elizabeth Chambers Hammer on How She Prepared for the Oscars & Her Favorite L.A. Workout Spot

By Paul Zahn | March 7, 2018 | People

Elizabeth Chambers Hammer is a busy woman. Between being a culinary entrepreneur, journalist, mother, and wife to Armie Hammer, the red carpet favorite knows no limitations. Elizabeth even finds time for philanthropic efforts, including work with the charity, Stop Cancer. We caught up with Mrs. Hammer to chat about everything from baking to how she prepped for the red carpet.

On Working with the Charity, Stop Cancer

It’s been such a great experience working with the Stop Cancer organization whose mission is to provide funding for research of all forms of cancer prevention, treatment, cures and subsequent clinical applications. The organization, which was founded by my husband’s late great-grandfather, is near and dear to our hearts. Both of my parents have had cancer and almost everybody we know has been affected in some way negatively by the disease. I just love everything that the organization stands for.

On the Best Spots to Buy Fresh Ingredients to Cook with in Los Angeles

I love shopping at the Erewhon Market for fresh produce as well as local farmer’s markets. The Larchmont farmer’s market on Sunday’s is my favorite. If I’m in search for a particular spice, I head to the specialty markets on Sepulveda.

On the Difference between Selecting Ingredients in Los Angeles Versus her hometown San Antonio, Texas

In LA it’s the availability of fresh produce. When I’m there, I tend to incorporate lighter ingredients found year-round in the area such as citrus, avocado and lemons. In Texas, I gravitate towards sweet and savory ingredients like chocolate, pumpkin and pecans. Growing up in San Antonio, my grandmother owned a successful catering company and would always make us delicious heartwarming meals and desserts. So in a way, I associate comfort food with my childhood memories.

On Baking for her Husband, Armie Hammer

My favorite person to bake for is my husband. He’s very over the top about his enjoyment of all things, but he really enjoys food!

Her Top Tip for Getting the Red Carpet Glow

Hydration! Keeping my skin hydrated is always my number one priority. If you don’t properly hydrate and prep your skin, then you can run into all sorts of issues, including a dull looking appearance, wrinkles, increased breakouts and a cakey makeup look. Hydrated skin ensures everything looks like it should be and ensures a smooth makeup application.

Her Favorite Spa Stop before Hitting the Red Carpet

I love Carasoin Day Spa & Skin Clinic. I can’t imagine stepping on the red carpet without first visiting Lena [Bratschi]. She’s literally my go-to. She knows every insider tip and trick and she has all of the best gadgets that will leave you looking flawless. I swear it’s like she has a magic wand!

Her Favorite Spot in L.A. to Work Out

I don’t work out nearly as much as I should, but my favorite thing to do is to grab a friend, walk to Body by Simone in West Hollywood, take a class and if we’re feeling adventurous, walk back. It’s the best workout ever and all together it turns out to be a 7-mile walk plus a class! However, sometimes an Uber is involved in part of our trek.
