When Renée Zellweger won her first Golden Globe, she celebrated by treating herself to a vintage alligator black Hermès Kelly handbag.
Unsure of its authenticity, she consulted the late fashion icon André Leon Talley for assistance. At the time, the pair were working on a Vogue shoot following her big win and used their time in Paris to stop by the Hermès boutique.
Talley described the experience in his book, The Chiffon Trenches: “[My personal Hermés salesman] Monsieur Tessier inspected Renèe’s bag and disappeared with it into another room. Minutes later, he came back and told us this bag was indeed one of the finest examples of Hèrmes from the 1930s, in tip-top shape… Renèe was thrilled.”
In fact, she was so thrilled that she sent a New York City department store-sized wreath to Talley at Christmas time as a thank you.
A trip to Paris dedicated to authenticating and appraising a luxury designer bag is a whole other level of glamorous, but we ultimately know it isn't realistic, especially when we’re all busy with the holiday season.
Don’t fret: eBay has a solution.
On Dec. 13, 14 and 16 in Los Angeles and Las Vegas, it will roll out its Luxe Line, a mobile consignment concierge that showcases eBay’s new consignment service for handbags. Here, you can bring your designer handbags from brands like Prada, Louis Vuitton, Gucci and more to be appraised, photographed and consigned by eBay’s team of selling experts.
What’s more, the Luxe Line also offers limited-time, real-life access to shop a curated selection of items, such as a collection of handbags from the personal closet of fashion designer Jenna Lyons. And if you’re not in L.A. or Vegas, you can still jump at the chance to own a piece from Lyons’ collection by purchasing online. All proceeds go toward supporting Doctors Without Borders.
