The new musical director of the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra shares his LA favorites.
Who: Internationally renowned Spanish flautist and conductor Jaime Martín takes over as musical director of the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra (350 S. Figueroa St.) this month. “I am excited about my inaugural season with three world premieres and music spanning five centuries,” he says.
Beauty Spot: “I love The Huntington (1151 Oxford Road, San Marino). Its galleries and gardens are charming. I will be conducting Handel’s Water Music there in November.”
Music Mecca: “The Steinway Galleries in Beverly Hills and Pasadena are outstanding spaces in which to hear chamber music. The pianos are nice as well!”
Dining in C Major: “Vespaio (225 S. Grand Ave., 213.221.7244) is a great restaurant with fantastic food where it’s possible to meet artists working at nearby Disney Hall or teaching at the Colburn School.”
Introspective Eden: “For creative inspiration, I love Griffith Park (4730 Crystal Springs Drive). It is a fantastic place to just relax and think.”
