If Casablanca is one of your routine re-watches, you’re going to want to get your hands on this limited edition perfume.
Los Angeles-based fragrance house and lifestyle brand Charlot Fragrances just released its first Eau de parfum: Cade Grenade. Top notes of zesty clove and orange precede honeyed armoise, cade and guaiac wood before finishing off with notes of peppercorn, cedarwood, fir, eucalyptus and patchouli.
Charlot Fragrances aimed to capture the sexiest embodiment of the classic 1942 film. To get an idea of the eau de parfum, the company says to “envision an airy, smoke-filled gin parlor, auspiciously hidden in the streets of old French Morocco, where masterfully crafted cocktails flow – shaken and stirred to perfection -- as a live band awakens the crowd with sultry jazz that wafts across the atrium of Rick’s Café Américain.”
Just 100 of these locally handcrafted 50 mL-bottles are available. Cade Grenade, like all of Charlot Fragrances’ products, meets founders Andy and Kelsey Borenzweig’s need to merge their love for transcendent classic films with the actionable nature of fragrance. The siblings’ mission was to elevate their home with aromas that express cinema through scent.
Combining the greatest elements of Los Angeles’ film history with the casual-cool of Malibu, the family company began by creating small-batch candles from an all-natural soy and coconut wax base and furnishing it in painted vessels with distinctive, minimalistic presentation.
At the moment, most of Charlot Fragrances’ products are candles, so the release of the perfume is truly something special. In addition to capturing the smell of one of cinema’s most iconic films, their other fragrances embody the likes of North by Northwest and 8 ½ via candle. The 10-ounce items have an impressive 50-hour burn time.
Aside from meeting the needs of film buffs, purchase of Cada Grenade is actually for a good cause. Each sale goes to support pet shelters in the Los Angeles area. To commemorate the one-year anniversary of co-founder Andy’s rescuing his loving companion dog, 20 percent of all proceeds will go to Best Friends Animal Society, Los Angeles County Animal Services and Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Los Angeles.
Cada Grenade retails for $120 and is available online at charlotfragrances.com. Orders begin shipping Oct. 25.
