Culver City Celebrates 100 Years

By Helms Bakery District | October 6, 2017 | Culture

Helms Bakery District is now a historical destination, with award-winning restaurants, a unique collection of design and home furnishings stores, and simply a perfect place to meet with friends. This landmark building nestled in the heart of Culver City showcases restored neon signs, murals and a jewel-box museum, all just one block east of the Expo Light Rail Line. Enjoy a day of food, furniture and fun.

Helms Bakery then was a world renowned bakery that made history, as well as bread. Launched in 1930 by Paul Helms, the Bakery was a great pioneering feat for its time and quickly became a defining part of Southern California culture. Bakers baked on a large scale, creating breads, cakes, pies, wedding cakes, doughnuts, cookies and even cream puffs - over 150 items – all delivered in those famous coaches by your neighborhood Helmsmen! Paul Helms quickly thrust his local bakery onto the world stage and Helms bread soon became the choice of athletes, astronauts, presidents, kings and even Rose Parade queens, chalking up honors that defined an era. Join us in saluting the Helms Bakery’s contributions to the community and the significant role it played in local and global history from 1931 until 1969.
