Terranea, the eco-chic resort in our own backyard, turns 10.
Celebrate Terranea Resort’s diamond anniversary this season by toasting all those sustainably slick details that make the coastal property so LA-staycay special. Catch the tail end of whale-watching season (pun intended) as nearly 20,000 gray whales pass by the resort on their way home to the Bering Sea from their winter break in Baja. Meet the falconer and his aristocratic birds of prey, who shoo all those common seagulls away. Or tour the Catalina View Gardens’ beehives, tended by award-winning executive chef Bernard Ibarra, who personally gathers honey for some of his signature Terranea dishes. Not woo-woo enough? Indulge in a session of Full Moon Yoga out on the Ocean Lawn, or enjoy the Tranquility Ritual, gazing at the sea while floating in a copper tub full of orange blossoms and vanilla. If you really want to give back in honor of the resort’s big 1-0, consider joining one of Terranea’s volunteer crews to assist in a kelp forest cleanup or releasing a stranded sea lion or pelican. Of course, if all this activity sounds like too much of a goody-goody to-do, feel free to laze by one of the four (seagull-free) swimming pools and just count your blessings. 100 Terranea Way, Rancho Palos Verdes, 855-938-4047, terranea.com
