Actors, partners and now Met Gala co-hosts— alongside Regina King and Lin Manuel-Miranda— Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds have arrived at the Metropolitan Museum of Art for fashion’s biggest night.
Formerly Lively’s stomping grounds during her years as teen queen Serena Van der Woodsen on Gossip Girl, she returns for another year at the Met Gala and evidently continues a streak of gorgeous looks.
The actress donned a soft metallic pink gown with matching gloves and a cascading train that elegantly draped down the infamous, paparazzi-studded steps. The dress radiates through metallic and embellished geometric shapes, bringing the central column shape of the dress to life. Finally, she pulls together the look with dripping, similarly geometric pink and emerald earrings and a delicate tiara— an accessory she has worn in the past, but this time to a different effect. Inspired by the Statue of Liberty, the gown was designed by Versace.
Reynolds accompanies Lively as an ideal complement. In a sharp, deep chocolate suit, he keeps the look clean with a white vest and matching white bow tie and lapel pin. A chain clipped to one of his vest buttons hints at a tucked away pocket watch, or perhaps it just adds a bit of shine alongside his gold watch.
This year’s Met Gala theme is In America: An Anthology of Fashion, which celebrates this week’s opening of the exhibition of the same name that runs until Sept. 5. In suit, the dress code called for white tie gilded glamor, which asks guests to evoke Gilded Age New York, 1870 to 1890.
