Nicole Byer walks the red carpet at the 73rd annual Primetime Emmy Awards.
Television heavyweights gathered in downtown Los Angeles to celebrate the year’s best on the silver screen. Among acknowledging stellar performances, writing and directing, much buzz swirled around colorful suits, bold gowns and breathtaking jewels. See 10 of the best looks from the 2021 Emmy Awards below.
The creator and star of I May Destroy You became the first Black woman to win an Emmy for limited series writing, and her powerful, quick acceptance speech invigorated viewers across the nation. Coel, to put it simply, is one of the industry’s boldest artists and that is no different for when she is walking the red carpet. At the ceremony, Coel wore a neon custom two-piece by Chrisopher John Rogers.
Among the biggest shames of the night was MJ Rodriguez’s loss of best actress in a drama series. But true to her Pose character Blanca, Rodriguez showed out like she was the belle of the ball. The actress donned a custom sky-blue Atelier Versace gown and Bulgari jewels.
Given Ted Lasso is television’s sweetheart of the moment, its star and creator knew there was a good chance he’d be on stage quite a number of times for the Emmys, meaning it was time to rock a killer suit. Trading in his hoodie for something more formal, Jason Sudeikis looked dapper in a teal, velvet Tom Ford suit.
With two nominations for the night, the Nailed It host easily secured the title of best Hollywood glam. Her luscious, purple gown from Christian Siriano embodied royal elegance and starlet drama.
The longtime Saturday Night Live cast member was a sight for sore eyes in a soft pink suit and matching bow tie. Like a handful of actors at the ceremony, Kenan Thompson brought a pop of color to what is so often a sea of black and white.
With industry events ramping up and summer having its final days, sheer dresses have been quite the rage of late. Last night, Issa Rae proved that such a look can continue to turn heads. Not even a disco ball could hold a candle to the sparkling nature of Rae’s look. Her teardrop-shaped earrings and diamond grill polished off her look, with the custom mesh Aliétte NY dress pulling focus.
First, let’s acknowledge this dress has pockets! Yara Shahidi looked like a gem in her green, off-the-shoulder Christian Dior gown. She sealed the look with nude pumps and a stunning gold collar from Cariter. In fact, the emerald necklace is valued at $1 million.
The One Night in Miami star never disappoints! Nominated for his role in Hamilton, which arrived on Disney Plus last summer, Leslie Odom Jr. kept things fresh in a white suit from the Dolce & Gabbana 2021 Alta Sartoria collection.
According to her Instagram post, Kaley Cuoco’s neon dress brought her to tears the first time she put it on. The Flight Attendant star looked radiant in the chartreuse Vera Wang gown, with matching Le Sillla heels and sparkling De Beers earrings.
If there’s one thing you can count on, it’s Billy Porter bringing extravagance to the red carpet. One again nominated for his history-making role as Pose ballroom emcee Pray Tell, Porter’s look surely would’ve garnered fanfare from his on-screen persona. Even in black, he made a statement in a custom-made Ashi Studio ensemble distinguished by dramatic ruffles on the sleeves.
