Kick-start your summer with inside advice from these six fitness experts.
Nicole Stuart, Kate Hudson’s personal trainer, says to do something every day.
“Keep it simple, and try to do something small every day. At the end of a week it adds up. At the end of a month even more. Even taking walks around the block—it all adds up.”
Denise Austin, fitness instructor who has sold over 24 million DVDs, says to turn idle time into toning time.
“I get in a 10-minute morning workout that includes butt taps, mini squats, push-ups, leg lifts, and bicycles for the abs.”
Shane Collard, Xtend Barre instructor to supermodels Andreja Pejic and Jessica White, says skip the elevator.
“I always opt to take the stairs whether it’s at home, the office, or just in your daily life. It will tighten up your legs and butt while increasing your heart rate.”
Anna Kaiser, AKT founder and trainer to Drew Barrymore and Sofía Vergara, says it's important to just show up.
“Don’t let the thought of working out in your living room leave you uninspired. Trust me, amazing music will always motivate you.”
Caroline Ficksman, TV and nightlife personality trainer, says to try couch dips.
“Sit on your hands if you are a beginner. Bring your legs out but keep them slightly bent. If you are advanced, straighten your legs and bring them out further. On your heels, move your butt off the couch, lean back, keep chest up, and lower straight down. Do three sets of 15 to 20.”
Chase Weber, trainer to the Kardashians’ stylist Monica Rose, says to warm up before a sweat session to activate your abs and glutes.
“Jogging high knees in place for one-minute, lateral lunges (10 on each leg), quick feet in place for 30 seconds (pick your feet up and back down as fast you can), 25 sit-ups, and 25 ‘supermans.’”
