For so long, the return of Sex and the City felt more like a fever dream than anything. And though there have been some bumps along the way (it just won’t be the same without Kim Cattrall), HBO Max announced Carrie Bradshaw and co. will officially make their return next month.
Clear your calendar for the evening of Dec. 9 because you’ll want to be settled into the couch all night. On that Thursday, HBO Max will debut the first two episodes of SATC reboot, And Just Like That…. The ten-episode original series will then run into the new year with the remaining eight episodes releasing weekly on subsequent Thursdays.
The teaser reveals Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker), Miranda (Cynthia Nixon) and Charlotte (Kristin Davis) are at their old ways— sort of. It opens with the trio heading into one of their classic brunches, but over the rest of the 50 seconds, we learn a lot has happened for the girls.
“They say some things never change,” Carrie narrates, proving that some things stay the same. “But the truth is, life is full of surprises and as your story unfolds, the city reinvents itself. And just like that, a new chapter begins.”
SATC originally unveiled the complicated reality of life, love and friendship through the beloved quartet of friends. Once again enlivened by the magic of New York City, And Just Like That… explores the even more complicated reality of life and friendship during your 50s.
The mini trailer offers quick glimpses of what is to come. Like Carrie said, surprises are no doubt in store, but it was truly exciting to see Carrie still (for now?) with Big (Chris Noth) and a glimpse of the late Willie Garson (AKA Stanford Blatch). Did you also happen to notice Carrie wearing a long, white tulle skirt in one quick scene? Perhaps it was an ode to the original opening sequence’s infamous white tutu.
What’s more, a new chapter means new and old faces. The series cast also includes Sara Ramírez, Sarita Choudhury, Nicole Ari Parker, Karen Pittman, Mario Cantone, David Eigenberg and Evan Handler.
