The Los Angeles Philharmonic and Gustavo Dudamel kicked off their centennial season with a rousing “California Soul” opening concert and gala featuring Corinne Bailey Rae, Chris Martin, and John Densmore of The Doors. Guests including Angela Bassett, Courtney B. Vance, John Williams, and Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti walked the red carpet up Walt Disney Concert Hall’s grand staircase, and enjoyed a night full of music and beauty. The Opening Night Gala and Concert raised an astounding $3.4 million for the LA Phil’s varied music education programs, which serve more than 150,000 children, teachers, and families annually.
