The Peruvian born has become one of the most sought after contemporary artists in recent times.

“Nothing will change art. The sources of inspiration might change, but art itself is not modifiable.” –Alonzo affirms, as he paces around his studio.

For those who look through the glass, contemporary art might seem to have gravitated towards increasingly banal subject matter in the past decade; The resistance masters of yore seem to be slowly fading away as a new generation insists on squandering creative influence on inconsequential topics.

However, buried deep inside Lima, the capital of Peru, a thirty-something wholehearted rebel and prolific visual artist turned cultural architect sits in front of a blank canvas, questioning the present, and his role in it.

“I´d rather live with a mask on, than live under control. They are trying to tame us, but free will is not a choice.” –Alonzo boldly expresses, as he unveils the piece he is currently working on.

Alonzo Vega leverages the current global narrative to express powerful ideas through his art.

“As human beings, we are the only species capable of creating art, viewing art and understanding art. I use art to express ideas that provoke inner debate.” – he states.

The acclaimed artist is no stranger to mainstream success, having showcased his work at select galleries around the world and commanding attention at Art Basel Miami among other marquee global stages, however Alonzo remains skeptical of the spotlight.

He creates art with an untainted desire for personal and collective expression, and thrives under self-imposed pressure, always pushing his work to the limits of conventional creativity.
